Abstract

women's reproductive factors may be risk factors foe obesity in women. Since few studies with conflicting results have examined that reproductive factors association with obesity, present study aimed to determine the relationship between reproductive history (age at menarche, parity, gravidity, breastfeeding duration, menopause age) with women's body mass index. Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study of 240 of women who had eligible criteria and referred to polyclinic of Imam Khomeini hospital in Urmia were selected in 2015. Data were collected with a questionnaire and then weight and height of subjects were measured by BsBeure50 scale and fixed wall height measuring, data were analyzed by software SPSS version 17 and statistical tests. Results: This study showed that the mean ± SD of body mass index and age of women are 29.28 ± 5.53 kg / m 2 and 52.4 ± 12.4 years. 35.8% of samples were overweight and 44.6% were obese. Parity (p=0.001, r=0.91) and gravidity (p=0.003,r=0.19) and body mass index were significantly positive correlation, and other studied variable(age at menarche, duration of breast feeding, menopausal age) with a body mass index were not significantly different(p>0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that the high number of pregnancy are a risk factor for obesity so it seems Planning health interventions for women during pregnancy and after delivery is essential to reduce the incidence of obesity
