Abstract

Pregnancy is one of the most important phases in women who are seeking a
great experience. However, not all pregnancies result in the birth of a healthy baby without
complications and, it can be associated with unpleasant consequences. This study has been compared
the outcomes of pregnancy after in vitro fertilization (IVF) and spontaneous pregnancy in
primigravida women admitted to 3 different hospitals in Tehran -2013.
Materials & Methods: This study is a retrospective cross sectional analytical study to evaluate and
compare the maternal outcomes (preeclampsia, multiple pregnancy, diabetes, pregnancy, delivery,
premature delivery) on the 620 first pregnant women. The samples were gathered from three hospitals
of Shahid Akbar Abadi (310 samples), Arash (155 samples) and Baharloo (155 samples) according to
the criteria and quota sampling. Different tests of chi-square, Fisher's exact test, t and Mann - Whitney
were used to do the statistical analysis.
Results: The mean and standard deviation of age was 25/3 ± 4/56 and 29/8 ± 5/31in spontaneous
pregnancy and IVF groups respectively. Statistical correlation was seen between the two groups
concerning the variables of preeclampsia (P = 0/003), gestational diabetes (P = 0/012), multiple births
(P< 0/0001), CS (P< 0/0001) and preterm delivery (P< 0/0001). Blood pressure doesn’t show a
significant relationship. It is notable that after removing the effect of confounding variable of age, a
strong correlation was observed in preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.
Conclusion: IVF infertility treatment in pregnancy can cause negative effects. So, special attention
should be paid to the infertile women in their pregnancy
