Abstract
fear and anxiety before surgery characterized with the stress with arousal of the
autonomic nervous system that causes physical and psychological changes, increased postoperative
pain and prolong recovery time.
Materials & Methods: method is experimental pretest-posttest with control group. 45 women waiting
for cesarean section were assigned randomly in three groups (music therapy, voices of the Quran and
control group). All groups were tested with the Spielberger's State Anxiety Inventory, before
intervention. Then 20 minutes the instrumental music for music group and voices of the Quran for
voices of the Quran group was played. Spielberger's State Anxiety again was performed in three
groups..
Result:The results showed that difference of scores in the Quran voices and music groups with the
control group scores was significant and anxiety scores in both groups against the control group was
declined. Also the results show that the difference in anxiety scores between the two groups of voices
of the Quran and music is significant and mean of anxiety scores in voices of the Quran group in
posttest lesser than mean of scores in music group.
Conclusion: Although the music reduces anxiety, but the voices of the Quran greater than music,
reduces anxiety before a cesarean section.
