Abstract

Depression is one of the most important psychiatric disorders whose symptoms often begin in adolescence and early youth. The present study was done to investigate levels of depression on paramedical students of Kashan University of Medical Sciences, 2008-2009. Materials & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 208 female and male students (each 104 ones). Data were gathered by Beck depression questionnaire then were analyzed using SPSS 14. Results: From 208 selected students, 52% were normal; 30.76% suspected depression and 19.23% were depressed. Sexually, the girls had the most prevalence with 57.2% and boys with the least with 42.5%. Chi-square test showed that statistically there was also a significant relation between the levels of depression and situation of inhabitancy (p<0.05). Conclusion: Rate of depression among paramedical students of Kashan University of Medical Sciences is low. Regarding the obtained results it is necessary to have individual and environmental stresses reduced. A rapid and timely recognition of symptoms of this disorder is helpful in prevention.
