Abstract
Episiotomy is one of the best techniques and its clinical benefits remain largely
unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of epithelial type and its clinical
complications in women three months after vaginal delivery.
Materials & Methods: This prospective longitudinal study was performed on 510
primiparous women with vaginal delivery. The samples were followed up and the data were
collected with interviews and filling forms up. The data analysis was done by SPSS 11.5
Results: Episiotomy was performed in the 97.3% of primiparous women; 32.3% of women had
midline episiotomy; and 67.7% had mediolateral episiotomy. Episiotomy complications were perineal
pain and dyspareunia.
Conclusion: The incidence of epsiotomy in Iran is much more than rate reports of other parts of the
world and mediolateral episiotomy is more than the midline. The frequency of perineal pain show that
perineal pain in the first 24 hours is related to the number of steria and episiotomy type, and infant
weight during the phase (after 40 days) of delivery
