Abstract

High-risk behaviors have been of particular interest to societies because of their
prevalence in youth today. Many of these behaviors such as illicit drug use, alcohol use, and high risk
sexual behaviors cause a large number of deaths and injury among teens, or have negative impacts on
society. Therefore, this is study was carried out to promote adolescent girls' health through education
of preventive methods of HIV-related high-risk sexual behaviors.
Materials and Method: This study was a quasi-experimental research. The samples of this study were
comprised of 300 girls' who were studying in Nursing Midwifery School and paramedical School of
Urmia University of Medical Sciences. The samples were selected by random sampling technique.The
data were gathered by means of a questionnaire, which was in two main parts: A) demographic
characteristics and B) questions about sexually high-risk behaviors.Reliability and validity of the
questionnaire were detemined by test-retest and content validity methods, respectively. The data were
analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: According to findings of this study, the mean score of knowledge of students about Sexually
high-risk behaviors before and after education were 64.7and 71.74, respectively. Paired t-test was
used to test the difference between means. Test results indicated that there is significant difference
between two means (t= -10.33, df=21, p<0.05)
Conclusion: According to our findings, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and
sexually high risk behaviors among young girls. There fore, it seems that acquisition of knowledge
and skills about preventive measures of sexually high-risk behaviors in schools and universities can
reduce risky behaviors and promotion of health among girls.
