Abstract

Because of numerous potential problems that women may encounter during pregnancy and labor, they need more services and respect of their rights. Generally, mothers' level of satisfaction with quality of midwifery care and the respect of their rights are low. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of implementation of "respect of patients' rights" workshop for midwives on women's viewpoint about respect of patients' rights. Method and materials: This semi-experimental study was conducted among 400 parturient women who give birth vaginally with the assistance of midwives in Fajer Hospital of Mako. Purposive sampling was used. Two hundred parturient women were selected as control group and, after implementation of patients' rights workshop for midwives, another two hundred parturient women were selected as cases. Data gathering was performed by a researcher-made questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by SPSS (ver 11.5) software. Results: The findings of this study showed that psycho-social and physical rights of 70% and 89% (respectively) of the cases were respected "very well". Whereas, only 2% of control group believed that their psycho-social rights were respected at "good" level and 96.5% of them believed that their psycho-social rights were respected at "medium" level. There was a significant difference (p<0.001) between cases and members of control group regarding respect of physical and psycho-social rights by midwives. Discussion: The findings of this study revealed that implementation of "patients' rights workshop" for midwives can significantly increase their respect to parturient rights
