Abstract

Clinical experiences tell us that there is overlapping of symptoms between some psychological disorders and some organic disorder. These common grounds has prompted the use of tests in Neuropsychology for deferential diagnosis. Bender-Gestalt test is one of the better known tests in Neuropsychology, which is easily and simply done. Method & Material: To carry out this research, the researcher has contacted with two centers of MRI imaging, in Tehran. He has chosen 81 patients as a sample size. Selected persons as samples, in this group were kept under control from the following variables Age, sensory-motor disorders, visual disease, psychosis and mental retardation. Before taking the patients to MRI imaging, they were given a clinical interview and Bender-Gestalt test. Results: The results indicated that there is significant difference between Bender-Gestalt test and MRI imaging in screening of brain lesions and normal cases. In 57% of cases, the two systems were agreed in screening of brain damage and normal cases. in 43% of cases, the two systems did not agree. In 8.5% of these cases, the Bender-Gestalt test indicated brain lesions but MRI method recognized them as normal, and in 34/5% of cases, Bender Gestalt test indicated normal, but MRI method recognized them as brain lesion. Discussion: It came to this conclusion that Bender-Gestalt test can be used as an aid to recognize brain lesions as a screening test in psychology clinics in order to avoid unnecessary imaging of human brain
