Abstract

Pain is one of the common symptoms that nurses observe in patients, therefore pain management and relieving it is priority of nursing intervention. So nurses need to correct knowledge, attitudes, and skills about pain. Methods & Materials: The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of education on improving the skills of nurses about knowledge, assessment, and management of pain in Neishabour hospitals in 1383. In the semi experimental research sixty nurses of community of nurses who worked in Neishabour hospitals were randomly selected. The data was collected by using standard questionnaire based on knowledge, attitudes and practicality of nurses about understanding, assessment and management of pain before and after educational programs. The data has been analyzed with spss software. Results: Knowledge of samples about physiology, signs, and symptoms of pain increased from 32.8% to 87.7% after the education, And also the information of nurses about pain assessment and pain severity increased from 54.3% to 85.8%. The findings showed that 91 % of respondents believed that patients were the best judge of pain. 82.9% of the nurses disagreed with analgesics regularly because of the probability of leading to addiction but at the end of the course their viewpoint changed and 95.4% agreed with it. And also findings showed there was significant differences (pConclusion: The results of data indicated that this education intervention improved knowledge attitudes and practices of nursing about pain and it is suggested that for regular education more and continuous educational programs about knowledge, assessment and management of pain is needed.
