Abstract
Training for ventilator-associated pneumonia prevention on the basis of clinical
guidelines can be effective in preventing it, but what will be the effect of training on different grades.
Therefore, we aimed to study the effect of training based clinical guidelines on performance of nurses
in the prevention of ventilator-dependent pneumonia in special wards of Urmia teaching hospital during
night shifte.
Materials & Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 60 nurses (control and intervention groups) who
working in intensive care unit of Urmia-hospital were included in study. For training group, four
sessions of training, overhead posters and giving pamphlet were used. Chi-Square and t-test were used
to analyze data.
Results: The overall performance score of nurses in prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia was
16.23 ± 2.28 for control group and 24.43 ± 2.12 for intervention group, which indicating there was
significant difference between two control and intervention groups (P <0.001).
Conclusion: By consideration of positive effect of education on reducing incidence of ventilatorassociated pneumonia in this study, it is necessary to give pamphlets, use of posters and participate in
educational courses
