Abstract

Students experienced high social anxiety because they facing with educational stresses and attend various groups, therefore, the aim of this study was to the role of rumination and perfectionism in explaining of social anxiety disorder in students. Materials & Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population of the study was 13097 students in Azad University of urmia in the academic year of 2018. Using Kerjesi-Morgan table and by cluster sampling, 375 subjects (217 girls, 158 boys) were selected as the research sample and completed the social anxiety inventory of Connor et al (2000), perfectionism of Hill and et al (2004) and rumination scale of Nolen-Hoeksema and et al (1991). Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression using spss 19 software. Results: The results of Pearson correlation coefficient showed that there was a positive correlation between social anxiety and non-adaptive perfectionism (p < 0.01) and rumination (p < 0.01) and there was a negative relationship between social anxiety and adaptive perfectionism components (p < 0.01). Also, the results of multiple regression showed that research variables predicted%13 of social anxiety of students. Conclusion: according to the results, perfectionism and rumination are one of the determining factors in explaining and predict of social anxiety in students. Future studies are necessary to confirm the results of this study.
