Abstract
Nowadays, diabetes is a silent epidemic of the present century, and it is one of the biggest health problems in all countries, known as the "diabetes epidemic", which includes pregnant women as well. The aim of present study was to determine the impact of the consultation on promoting healthy lifestyles in women with gestational diabetes. Materials & Methods: This Randomized Clinical Trial study was performed on 60 mothers with gestational diabetes who admitted in Motahhari hospital of Urmia.The samples were assigned randomly in to two groups. The intervention group received 5 counseling sessions. Data was collected by completing demographic questionnaire, and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II questionnaire. Results: This study showed that after intervention, counseling, and health promotion behavior scores were (158/04±17/04) significantly higher in the intervention group than control one (111/4±12/15) (P< 0/001). Conclusions: Midwives as the health promoting lifestyle counseling at health centers play important role in improving the lifestyles of mothers with gestational diabetes, and reduce complications associated with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in pregnancy
