Abstract
The aims of present research was to study psychometric properties of the Prenatal
Distress Questionnaire (PDQ) in Iranian sample, which aims to assess worries and concerns related to
pregnancy.
Materials & Methods: This is a cross-sectional survey with 242 pregnant women attending in three 29
Bahman, Taleghani, and Shahid Mahallati hospital's in Tabriz. Participants completed the PDQ, CWS,
and STAI. Data was analyzed with exploratory factor analysis (principal component analysis with
varimax rotation), MANOVA, and Pearson correlation.
Results: Exploratory factor analysis of all 12 items making up the PDQ identified three factors: concerns
about birth and the baby, concerns about weight/body image, and concerns about emotions and
relationships. PDQ showed that a good concurrent validity, test-retest stability, and internal consistency.
Also, comparison of two group (first pregnancy versus several pregnancy) showed that first pregnant
women achieved higher scores in PDQ.
Conclusion: The PDQ is a short, easy-to-complete questionnaire that has good psychometric properties.
In this study, the three factors identified from the 12 items making up the PDQ are in line with factors
found in original version. Present study emphasizes that the instrument could be beneficial in assessment
and appraisal of mothers worries in prenatal period
