Abstract

The present study surveys the relationships between participatory decisionmaking, organizational citizenship behavior, and psychological empowerment of the Urmia Medical University staff members. Materials & Methods: The statistical population of the study includes the whole staff members of the Urmia Medical University comprising 480 subjects. The research sample covers 214 male and female subjects selected through stratified random sampling. The study is descriptive and of correlation type. To analyze data, the study employs descriptive statistics methods such as indices of central tendency, distributive indices, and inferential statistics including Kolmogrov- Smirnov test, and multiple regression. Result:The results revealed that psychological empowerment and three of its subcategories including impact, autonomy and meaning (but not competence) have mediating role in the relationship between PDM and OCB. Furthermore, there is a significant and positive relationship between PDM and staff psychological empowerment. Also, staff organizational citizenship behavior depends on empowerment and all its components except autonomy. Conclusion: Hence, with regard to the above mentioned results, it is significant to pay close attention to staff psychological empowerment as an effective factor in staff participation rate at decisionmaking which in turn leads to the appearance of their organizational citizenship behavior.
