Abstract
Hospital admission for elderly person can put them in a crisis situation. Also, treatment services are in an environment of multiple and complex factors. So safety compliance in the centers by health care providers as like as nurses, reduce disease prevalence and the damage, shortens duration of treatment or admission to hospital for them, be functional status improves and increases the patients' sense of well-being. This study aimed to evaluate nurses’ practice about elderly patients safety care hospitalized in medical wards of treatment & educational centers in Urmia, Iran in 2016. Materials & Methods: In this study, 50 nurses were randomly selected in a randomized sampling and the ratio of 3 times, their caring practice in different shifts were studied. The survey tool was a safe practice researcher-made check list. The results of the research were analyzed by a SPSS 22 software and Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis. Results: In total, 61% of nurses had an optimal performance. The highest optimal performance was in the morning and afternoon shifts and within more experienced nurses. It was showed that there was a significant relation between nurses ‘work experience and their safe practices (p ≤ 0.05). Discussion: According safety standards and main objectives of the health systems for providing a qualified service, it is needed for educational programs to promote safe care. Common shifts in novice nurses and more experienced nurses should be considered
