Abstract

Children's health and education is an important issue playing a basic role in social and economic improvement. This study was aimed to show the role of pre-primary school on health awareness of first grade students of Tehran 4th district. Materials & Methods: In this case-control study a questionnaire survey was carried out on 152 primary school students that were selected through stratified random sampling. The questionnaire included demographic specification and 54 questions. The data were analyzed by Chi-square, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: The result showed that there is a significant relationship between the health awareness of trained and untrained boys about nourishment (p=0.003), and personal health (p=0.03), and also the health awareness of the trained and untrained girls about nourishment (p=0.005). There was a significant relationship between: mothers' literacy (p< 0.000), and fathers' literacy (p=0.02) on children’s personal health awareness; the group variable to the hygienic awareness of nutrition (p< 0.001); prevention of accidents (p=0.04); and personal health (p=0.03). The results didn’t show any significant differences between the variables. Conclusion: According to the results, teaching students has an effective influence on health awareness. Enabling hygienic behavior may be affected by some different factors besides the pre primary school training. Investigating these factors provides more clear standards to plan more effective training curriculum for children. Hygiene nurses are the most suitable ones to improve children's hygiene knowledge and behavior
