Abstract

Globalization is accompanied by cultural diversity. Health care providers are witnessing the presence of different people with different cultures due to direct confrontation with patients and their clients and companions; therefore, it is necessary to try to reduce the misunderstandings between culture and destructive social interactions by creating appropriate intercultural contexts. Due to the fact that nurses have the most contact among all health care providers with individuals, this study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the effects of cultural intelligence in nursing. Materials & Methods: The design of the study is based on the integrated review method of Whittemore and Knafl. Between 2000 and 2020, various databases including SID, Irandoc, Google Scholar, PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and ScienceDirect were searched with keywords of cultural intelligence and nursing. Finally, 9 articles in this study were analyzed. Results: Data analysis revealed three main areas related to this issue: the dimensions of cultural intelligence, the stages of cultural intelligence development, and the benefits of cultural intelligence in nursing. Conclusions: Based on a review of the literatures, it can be said that nurses with higher cultural intelligence are more successful in establishing a cultural connection between themselves and their colleagues and clients. Therefore, they are at a higher level in all aspects of individual and organizational performance. So it can be said that one of the things that can help to achieve the growth and development of health systems is the cultural intelligence of nurses.
