Abstract

Experience of stress in children have important role in development of physical, psychological and social problems. If children cannot use properly coping strategy against the stressors, concern to complex family and social problems in future. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate stress coping strategy in school age of children. Method: This study was a descriptive analytical design and study sample were 600 primary school age students in Khoy 2013, who were selected by multistage sampling. Data collection questionnaires were 1- demographic characteristics of children and family 2- School-ager's Coping Strtegies Inventory (SCSI). Content validity of the instrument was performed by faculty of nursing and also an educational advisor in Khoy and reliability was done by test-retest (0.84). Data analysis was performed by SPSS (ver 16) and using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: More than ffty percent of children use ten adaptive method further than other, that among of them the option of "pray", "to tell the truth and apologize", "trying to calm down and remain silent", "looking at the television or listen to music", "thinking about", "drawing, reading or writing something " and " playing ", were most methods are used by students. There were a signifcant correlation between the variables of age and grade of students with stress coping strategy (P>0.05). Conclusion: Identify stress coping strategy can be help to professional groups designed the school-based interventions or programs to reduce stress that commonly causes many physical and behavioral problems in school-age children
