Abstract

Suicide is the purposeful destruction of human which is done by own. It, in the best
sense, is a multifaceted problem in requirement man which finds suicide as the best solution to solve
the problem. Although the suicide rate in Iran is very low, the reviews show that suicide and death due
to suicide is growing. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors affecting the successful
suicide.
Methods and Materials: This case-control study done from 2008-2009. All those who had a
successful suicide (Dead due to suicide) enrolled to study as case group (n=33) and double size with
simple random sampling enrolled as control group (n=66). Data were analyzed by Descriptive
statistics, chi square tests and logistics analysis.
Results: Results showed that male gender is a risk factor for successful suicide (Death due to suicide).
Non-invasive Methods for suicide, No previous history of Physical – mental illness and residence in
city were preventive factors for suicide.
Conclusion: It seems that the education of households and introduce factors affecting on suicide and
death due to suicide especially for youth and adolescents, can be an effective way to promotion of
mental health and reduction injuries caused by suicide.
