Abstract

Development and growth are important in first years of life and influence
mental health in all periods of life. Some of the children face to emotional – behavioral problems that
early recognition and intervention can be useful and prevent serious disorders.
Aime of this research is to study social - emotional skills development problems in children.
Material & Methods: In this study at first we randomly selected 238 children aged 1-6 years from 6
kinder garters in different areas of Tehran, and then we clarified the children problems in social –
emotional skills development chart through observation and interview with mothers and teachers.
Statistical methods were used for analyses.
Results: The findings revealed that children aged 1-2 years had remarkable problems in social –
emotional skills development and the older children had problems in pointing out defferences between
self and others, handling frustration and, acknowledge their own accomplishment.
Conclusion: According to the results, it appears that low attention has been given to the 1-6 year old
children's social – emotional skills development and highlighted the importance of cultural – social
factors
