Abstract

Reactive oxygen species have an important role in the development of many
diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of short term nanoselenium
supplementation and exhausted training in oxidation indexes in muscle tissue of male rats.
Materials & Methods: In this experimental study thirty-six male wistar rats aged two months (200±8
g), were randomly divided into four groups: 1- control (n=12), 2- nanoselenium (n=12), 3- training (n=6)
and 4- nanoselenium+training (n=6). Then, they were supplemented with nanoselenium for 14 days
(0.1mg/kg/day) by intraperitoneal injection. Six samples of muscle tissue from groups of one and two
during their resting time were collected. Training groups campaigned for two months. At the end of two
months for 2 first groups during their resting time and in the 2 training groups immediately after last
training session, tissue samples were collected. Independent T test and one-way ANOVA with SPSS21
software were used in order to find differences in variables (P˂0.05).
Results: T-test showed significant increase in TAC and significant decrease in MDA in the group 2 with
no difference in GPx compared to group 1. According to one-way ANOVA, there was a significant
increase in GPx and TAC in the group supplement compared to the group control, but there were not
any significant difference in MDA and there was a significant decrease in MDA and significant increase
in GPx and TAC in group 4 compared to group 3.
Conclusion: It appeared that supplementation of nanoselenium reduced the oxidative stress produced
by exhausted exercise and consequently antioxidant system was amplified
