Abstract

Multiple sclerosis (M.S.) disease is one of the most common neurological
disorders in the world. Considering the fact that quality of life as subjective mental feeling can be related
to psychological variables such as emotional intelligence, the present study aimed to investigate the
quality of life and its relation to emotional intelligence in patients with M.S in Urmia city.
Materials & Methods: This study was conducted on 214 patients (92 males and 122 females) who were
selected by available sampling method. To collect data WHOQOL-BREF quality of life assessment and
emotional intelligence questionnaire were used. The data were analyzed using multivariate regression
and correlation coefficient.
Results: It was revealed that there was significant relationship between the quality of life and emotional
intelligence components such as happiness, self-fulfillment, independence, realism; and reverse
relationship with elements of problem solving, interpersonal relationships and empathy.
Conclusion: The present results suggest that there is relationship between quality of life and significant
components of emotional intelligence.
