Abstract

Due to continuous changes in the quality of care, the need for providing safe
care by competent nurses is interesting. While surveys show that most nursing graduates, are eligible
for inclusion in the labor market.One of the effective factors is the lack of required competencies in
the internship period educators that are responsible for the final phase of nursing education. The
purpose of this study was to determine clinical educators` competencies during internship period.
Materials & Methods: In this study, a qualitative design, conventional content analysis was used. 16
persons that participated to clinical education in internship period interviewed semi-structurally. The
obtained data from participants was recorded and analyzed by Maxqda 2007software, and the themes
were extracted inductively from the raw data.
Results: During data analysis, 5 themes and 12 categories were developed: "personality
traits"(behavior, vulnerability, professional attitude),"professional communication" (moderating role,
ethicalconsiderations and multidimensionalcommunication) "professional education" (empowering in
applying the effective teaching methods, skills in applying knowledge)"Management Power"
(empowering instudents supervision)"Clinical evaluation "(skills in explaining the objective
evaluation criteria and empowering in applying the collaborative evaluation of student)
Conclusion: By considering the effective role of educators in nursing education in the internship
period and the importance of students` authority and self-steam in providing safe care for patients,
maintaining and increasing the clinical educator competency is interested
