Abstract

Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) is an ulcer that mainly occurs in the stomach or
proximal duodenum. PUD can affect patients’ quality of life (QOL). The aim of this study was to
examine the quality of life in patients with PUD in Sanandaj.
Materials & Methods: This cross sectional analytical study included 120 outpatients with PUD referring
to Besat Hospital in Sanandaj. They were selected through non-probability sampling. The patients
completed the Medical Outcome Survey-Short Form-20 questionnaire and the data were analyzed by
SPSS. The statistical analysis of the data included Sprearman’s Rho correlation, t- test, and one-way
ANOVA.
Results: The respondents had a low quality of life relating to the dimensions of pain (68.5%), and general
health perceptions (30.2%); however, their physical health status showed better scores (70.7%). There
was a significant correlation between age, education level, and income in quality of life in patients
(p<0.05).
Conclusion: Planning educational programs to improve quality of life in peptic ulcer patients is
necessary. Pain reduction and improving patients' health perception should be priorities of any programs
aimed at promoting their quality of life
