Abstract

Hip fractures in the elderly are the most common orthopedic injury and puts
high financial stress the family and society. Mortality in hip fracture is 20 percent compared with
deaths from other orthopedic problems. This review aimed to determine the effectiveness of protectors
and their role in hip fracture prevention.
Materials & Methods: This review article search English and Persian articles using randomized
controlled trials (RCTs) in order to test effectiveness of hip protectors.
Result: Eighteen proper articles were noticed. Of eighteen articles, twelve (66.6%) found hip
protectors to be effective in preventing hip fractures in selective population.
Conclusion: Further research on hip protectors and their role in hip fracture prevention in the elderly
is essential to maintain their independence and enhance their quality of life
