Abstract

Suitable Midwifery skills could prevent many deaths of maternal, fetal, and
neonatal. Midwifery education has a profound impact on the quality of the above skills. Therefore, this
study aimed to determine clinical skills of graduated midwives from Mashhad nursing and midwifery
faculty who are working at the Mashhad Health care centers.
Materials & Methods: present research would be a kind of cross – sectional investigation. Subjects of
this research were the graduated midwives in the recent three years and employed at Mashhad health
care centers (30 subjects) and their supervisors (3٠subjects).The research tools were “midwife self
assessment questionnaire and “evaluation questionnaire by the supervisors “. The collected data was
analyzed statistically.
Result: 72/8% of graduates reported their curriculum had a sufficient training program on the
management of high-risk condition faced to mothers and children. 56/9% of supervisor were
evaluated the skills of graduated in managing high-risk condition of mother and child as expected as or
higher than expected. Midwifery graduates performance evaluation with regard to themselves
compared to the supervisors evaluation was higher (P <0 / 01). Midwifery graduates and their
supervisor evaluations in managing high-risk condition were evaluated lower than the low risk
condition (P <0 / 05).
Conclusion: Midwifery curriculum requires good plan to obtain more qualified midwifery clinical
skills for the management of high-risk conditions may reduce the gap between education and practice.
