Abstract
Considering the effects of domestic violence on psychological and physical health
of family members, the aim of the current study was to explore the experiences of domestic violence in
husbands of women with interpersonal dependency.
Materials & Methods: In the study semi-structured interviews with 18 husbands of women with
interpersonal dependency were investigated thorough secondary data analysis by thematic analysis
method.
Results: Data analysis led to extract 3 main themes and 10 Subthemes included: 1) psychological abuse
(jealousy and distrust, uncontrolled emotional reactions, reassurance seeking, restriction and exclusivity,
responsibility overload by husband, continuous use of manipulative strategies), 2) im posing
psychological pressure for initiating sex, persistence husband physical stimulation for initiating sex,
mutual stress in sexual relation), and 3) physical violence (physical maltreatment against husband, selfinjury, and physical maltreatment against children).
Conclusion: Based on the results, husbands of women with interpersonal dependency are subjected to
domestic violence by their spouses. The results could be useful at risk assessment, determine therapeutic
routs, and management of domestic violence in women with interpersonal dependency.
