Abstract
Lowfrequencyelectricalstimulationhasbeenrevealedthatasapotentialcureinpatientwithdrugresistanttoepilepsy.Thisstudytriesto
evaluatetheeffectoflowfrequencyelectricalstimulation(LFS)onabsenceseizureofperioralregionprimarysomatosensorycortex(S1po).
Eighteen maleWAG/RijratswerereceivedLFS(3Hz,squarewave,monophasic,200 �s, and400�A) for25minintoS1poforaperiodof
fivedays.Thereis6animalspergroup.ThestimulatingelectrodeswereimplantedaccordingtostereotaxiclandmarksandEEGrecordingwas
obtained 30minbeforeandafterLFStoanalysefrequency,numberanddurationofspike–wavedischarges(SWD).Theresultsshowedthatin
animals withunilateralstimulatingelectrodes(Exp1)infirstandseconddaysandalsoinanimalswithbilateralstimulatingelectrodes(Exp2)
in days3rdand4th.LFShadsignificantdecreaseeffects(p < 0.05)onmeannumberofSWDbetweenpre-LFS.Incomparisonpre-LFSto
post-LFS, meanofdurationinExp2decreasedsignificantly.IncontinuousapplicationofLFS(5days)onlythedataoffirstdaywasdifferently
significant (p < 0.05)butdataofotherdayshadnodifference.ComparisonofdatabetweenExp1,Exp2andcontrolgroupsshowedthatthe
mean numberofExp1wassignificantlydifferent(p < 0.05)andmeanpickfrequencyinExp2wassignificantlydecreasedincomparisonwith
Exp1 group(p < 0.05).TheLFSofS1poproducessignificantantiepilepticeffectonabsenceseizurebutitwasnotpersistenttillthenextday
and showsashorttimeeffect
